Now ideally, ESXi is supposed to be installed on bare metal (on the hardware itself with no operating system). That was the initial plan when I made my PC. I was going to install ESXi and on ESXi create virtual machines that include Windows 10, Windows Server 2019, different Linux distributions, and maybe MacOS. The reason i scrapped this idea was that you would need another computer to access it through the network. Instead I bought a monitor and installed Windows 10 as my main operating system. One Windows 10, I installed VMWare Workstation (type 2 hypervisor). To practice using ESXi, I decided to create an ESXi VM which I learned how to do on YouTube. Using VSphere, I created a Windows Server and also a CentOS VM. I was able to console to them remotely as well. So in the end, I feel I made the the right decision which let me get hands on experience using different software and operating systems. With this Windows Server 2019, I have learned about Active Directory and other administrative tools. I created another Windows 10 VM and linked it to a domain on the server and it worked. I was able to log in as a random user. I am currently studying on how to configure permissions and policies to create a secure environment.
